First Voice has today distributed its 2016 Annual Report which showcases the remarkable achievements of its members in enabling children who are deaf or hearing impaired to listen and speak.
Australia and New Zealand leads the world in its approach to early childhood hearing loss. Early diagnosis, timely access to hearing technologies and participation in listening and spoken language early intervention therapy enables deaf children to develop oral communication, attend mainstream schools, secure and maintain employment and participate in and contribute fully to society.
The annual report is brimming with stories of children and families whose lives have been transformed by access to sound and language. Spoken language provides the foundation for individuals to lead independent lives with optimal levels of economic and social participation.
